There are some wedding venues that need very little introduction, and Castell d’Empordà is certainly one of them.
Set amongst the beautiful countryside of the Baix Empordà, in the heart of Catalonia, this historic castle offers the most wonderful setting for a destination wedding in Spain. And it was here that Amy and Jack chose to celebrate their marriage, surrounded by the people who mean the most to them.
As a wedding celebrant based on the Costa Brava, I feel incredibly lucky to work in some of the most beautiful wedding venues in Spain. But what makes a wedding truly special is never simply the setting. It’s the people, the stories, the little details and, most importantly, the moments that make a ceremony completely their own.
A beautiful setting for a Costa Brava destination wedding
If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in Spain, Castell d’Empordà is somewhere that deserves a place on your venue shortlist. Dating back to the fourteenth century, this beautiful castle sits amongst the rolling landscapes and olive groves of the Empordà region. Its historic architecture, Mediterranean surroundings and panoramic countryside views create a wonderful balance of character, elegance and relaxed Spanish charm. From its gardens and olive groves to its beautiful terraces, Castell d’Empordà offers couples a variety of settings to bring their wedding vision to life.
It’s easy to see why it’s such a special place to gather friends and family from across the world for a wedding in Catalonia.
A wedding ceremony that feels like you.
One of my favourite things about being a wedding celebrant is that no two ceremonies should ever feel the same. A wedding ceremony is so much more than the formal part of the day. It’s an opportunity to pause, take everything in and celebrate the two people at the centre of it all. For Amy and Jack, their wedding was a chance to bring their favourite people together and make a commitment to one another in a way that felt meaningful to them.
As an independent wedding celebrant in Costa Brava, my role is to get to know each couple, understand what matters to them and turn those conversations into a ceremony that feels natural, personal and full of personality. Because the best ceremonies aren’t about following a formula. They’re about telling a story.
Celebrating love in the heart of Catalonia
There is something rather wonderful about a destination wedding. Bringing everyone together in a beautiful corner of the world, sharing long lunches, raising glasses, making memories and having the opportunity to celebrate for more than just a few hours. The Costa Brava and wider Girona region offer such a beautiful backdrop for this kind of celebration. With historic castles, Mediterranean landscapes, beautiful villages and exceptional wedding venues, it’s easy to understand why couples from the UK and further afield choose Catalonia for their wedding in Spain. Castell d’Empordà captures so much of what makes this part of the world special.
Being part of Amy and Jack’s wedding was another reminder of why I love what I do. Behind every ceremony are months of conversations, planning, thoughtful details and getting to know two people and the story they share. It’s a privilege to take everything I’ve learnt about a couple and turn it into something they can stand in front of their favourite people and experience together.
In their own words…
Madison – Truly exceptional wedding celebrant
From the moment we sat down for our initial appointment, we knew Maddie was the celebrant for us. She was so warm, friendly and genuinely easy to talk to — she just had this lovely, calming presence that put us both completely at ease. It felt like chatting with someone who’d known us for years rather than a first meeting, and we left that conversation certain she was the right person to marry us.
Fast forward to the wedding day and she completely blew us away. The ceremony was so thoughtfully personal — she really took the time to understand us as a couple and wove that into every part of the service. Everything ran incredibly smoothly, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and special rather than stressful.
In the weeks leading up to the day she was an excellent communicator — always clear, organised and responsive, which took a huge weight off our shoulders. On the day itself she was fantastic with our guests too; she created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that everyone felt included. So many of our friends and family have since told us how amazing the ceremony was, and how much of that was down to how personable, genuine and lovely Maddie was.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better celebrant. If you’re looking for someone who will make your ceremony feel truly personal, calm and memorable, we couldn’t recommend Madison highly enough.
